Finding the Right Scopecoat for Your Scope
The Devtron ScopecoatTM is constructed of the highest quality neoprene (2 and 6mm thick) laminated with nylon which give scope covers the ability to stretch approximately 10% and the correct fit is either relaxed or snug.
Scopecoat scope covers are sold by size. There are three measurements that are used; first is the length of the scope. Be sure to include the sunshade or ARD (anti-reflective device) if your scope has one in the measurement of the total length. Second is the size of the scopes objective lens measured in millimeters and this measurement is usually included in the scope's description. For example, a Nikon Coyote Special 4.5-14x40 has a 40mm objective and the Nikon Monarch 6-24x50 has a 50mm objective. That last number in a scope's description is usually the size of the objective lens. And third, is the turret height. Measure the highest turret on your scope. Tactical and competition turrets are generally equal to or greater than ¾ of an inch high. They require the XP-6 "Flak Jacket" model Scopecoat. Be sure to keep this in mind when ordering.
To figure out what size ScopecoatTM you will need for cylindrical type scopes, follow the steps below.
1. Measure the overall length of the scope. Include sunshade if applicable.
2. Measure the objective size. (The objective end of the scope is the end you do NOT look through while in use.)
3. Measure the turrets. These are the adjustment knobs on the scope. NOTE: if the turrets are 3/4 inches or more, they are considered "Tall Turrets" and you would need the XP6 Flak Jacket model ScopecoatTM.
Remember, ScopecoatTM rifle scope covers can stretch 10% past their actual size. With this in mind, select the right size for a relaxed or snug fit.
Now let's see what size Scopecoat you would buy for the Nikon Coyote Special 4.5-14x40. The scope measures 14.4 inches in length. It comes with an ARD so we need to add another ½ inch giving a total length of right at 15 inches. As we found out earlier, it has a 40mm objective. Measuring the turrets we find they are less than ¾ of an inch. Measuring the turrets confirms we do not need to order the XP-6 6mm model Scopecoat. The standard, 2mm Scopecoat will do just fine. Bottom line, we find the Scopecoat Large 14x52 will meet our requirements. The 14 inch length will stretch to over the 15 inches we require here and the 52mm diameter will be a relaxed fit on the objective.
Getting the correct Scopecoat fit for your scope is a simple process and we hope this has helped you.
